Currently, the nursery is set up with a rocking chair (which I nursed him in as a newborn), a small table next to that that has a clock (to see how long I had been nursing), the baby monitor base, a box of tissues, and some other thing, and then the crib. At least twice he's pulled the monitor into his crib. At least once he's pulled the power cable of the monitor into his crib to chew on, and at least once he's played with the monitor outside of the crib. I had been thinking that I ought to move things around, but I don't know what to do with the monitor base to keep it close to the crib but out of reach.
Today, after what I found when getting him up from a nap, I think we need to make some changes in the nursery set up.
The weekend before Christmas, I was told that The Husband's aunt had bought a very special present for Wiggle Worm and wanted to be there to see him open it. We were going to spend Christmas with my family this year, so she wouldn't have the opportunity. I was a little bit confused, Wiggle Worm isn't even 9-months-old yet. He doesn't really understand presents. I guess this aunt's husband said that she was being silly, or something, and she agreed that she didn't need to see him open it, as long as pictures were taken. Wiggle Worm got to open presents with The Husband's immediate family last night.
Since Wiggle Worm is so young, I had to open the presents for him. But I tried to get him involved. Notice my "It's a pony!" face and Wiggle Worm is just looking at dad.
Riding his new pony. You can see that he's too small for it right now, as his feet don't touch the foot holds.
He did decide, once Grandma rocked the pony, that it was pretty fun
Wiggle Worm did okay. His sleep was a little disrupted because he shared a room with us. But he did amazingly well on the car ride, and even napped during his normal nap times.
My camera battery died during the
hike, so I didn't get as many pictures from the weekend as I would have liked. The wind really picked up after the hike and made spectacular splashes against the rocks on the shore by the cabin. But I wasn't able to get pictures of the big ones because of the dead camera.
But all in all, I had a great time. But it was still nice to get back home Sunday into our own bed.
Wiggle Worm is six months on Tuesday. Where does the time go! He's rolling over both ways now and sits briefly before toppling over. He's had some avocado (didn't like it, but we're still going to try it again).
We decided we'd try to take our own six month portraits rather than go to a studio for it. Mostly because when he gets tired, he gets cranky, and it's hard to guess when to make an appointment so that he'll be awake and alert. It turned out okay. He's really into texture now, and thought his shirt was fascinating. So he kept rubbing at his shirt and looking at it rather than the camera. Or he'd pick up his shirt and put it into his mouth, flashing his little baby belly to the camera (my husband did not take any pictures of that, though).
The pants he's wearing are a remake of my husband's pants. My husband works in a lab developing new formulations of floor finish. He got a bunch on a pair of his work pants and couldn't wear them anymore. But enough of the pant was clean that I could cut them up and make them into baby sized pants!
As a side note, I made the overalls he's wearing. I'm really enjoying sewing, especially the projects that I've done lately, as they're pretty quick. I've made (that came out okay, there were a few projects not mentioned because they aren't usable) in the last month or so:
* Curtains for our family room
* A pair of pants that he doesn't fit yet
* Two wool diaper covers
* A matching pair of slippers
* A baby quilt
* Tree leaf covers for the arms of his mobile, to make it more interesting and match his room better
* A crib sized blanket/play mat with a waterproof inner, that folds up into a tote bag
* Baby overalls
* A baby bib to give as a gift
I've been practicing with free motion machine embroidery. I'm not too bad at it (for a beginner). I think I'll have to pick up a hoop so that I can do it properly. I've got some ideas for appliqué and embroidery clothes for him.
