Wiggle Worm has decided that he'll sit in his high chair nicely but he won't eat while sitting in it. To get him to eat, I have to hold him on my lap. What do I do about this?
I gave him carrots today. I was really surprised at how much he liked them. But carrot spit up does not smell very nice. And carrot poop is bright orange! I'm so glad I remembered to put a liner in that diaper, or I would most definitely have a bright orange stain.
Speaking of diaper liners, I found it really funny what we're doing. I recently bought some Gerber flats (they're squares of thin cotton fabric for diapers). But I don't use them as diapers. I'm using them as dish cloths. But now that we're feeding Wiggle Worm solids, I wanted to have disposable liners. So I'm using Viva paper towels as liners! Yes, I'm using diapers in the kitchen and paper towels in the diapers.
I have a blanket on the floor in the family room with a bunch of toys for Wiggle Worm. Today I discovered ants all over one of the burp cloths right next to the blanket. Gross! I vacuumed them all up, but what do I do if they come back? I don't want my baby to eat ants that get on his blanket that he plays on. Ick!
Pretty please with a cherry on top... My Wiggle Worm is in a "Baby of the month" contest. I know it's not the best picture, but could you vote for him anyway?
July Contest: He's "0707-04" with the black background and the turquoise diaper.
Thank you so very much!
I live in a suburb. There's a Goodwill about a mile from where I live. I made a trip there the other day with the intention of getting a wool sweater. This Goodwill surprised me, it was full of non-crappy items! I'm guessing that is because it's in the suburbs. Some of sweaters I found were the exact same as sweaters that I bought two years ago. I also noticed that a retailer that has its headquarters locally donates to this Goodwill. There were several items where they had 10 of the exact same shirt, with the brand crossed out on the tag. When the brand is crossed out, it is usually done by the store that makes sells the brand.
It's been 90 degrees here all week. Last night I went to a picnic with a bunch of friends. Wiggle Worm got too hot in the car ride and had broken out in heat rash. I stripped him down to his diaper and fed him to make sure he was hydrated. A couple of the moms commented on his diaper. I explained that it was a diaper cover, because we use cloth diapers. I was asked why I use cloth diapers all that could come to mind to say was, "Why not?" Thinking about it, here are some of the reasons we use cloth:
They're cheaper. We're using one of the cheapest methods of cloth diapering--prefolds and covers. I also have gotten good deals on the prefolds and covers we have. We also have a small amount of diapers (compared to some moms who use cloth). Our covers get used 10+ times a week, and they'll fit for 2-10 months at least (depending on the size of the cover [mediums will last longer than newborns] and on how fast wiggle worm grows). Each prefold diaper probably gets used thee times a week. Our prefolds, if we were to stop using them right now, would have cost us about $0.10 (or less) per use (that includes the cost to wash them). And we've only been using them for about 8 weeks, we'll be able to continue using them until he's 3-6 months old (depending on how fast he grows) before we buy the next size. And then we get to use them on future children, too, which further reduces the cost.
We don't have to run to the store when we run low. We only have one car. When the weather is nice, The Husband can ride his bike to work (it's about a 20 minute ride), but at least two days a week, he needs to drive to work for various reasons. What if I were to run out of disposable diapers when I didn't have the car? Should I hop on the bus and go to the grocery store to get some? I would either have to get from the bus stop to the store, get the diapers, check out, and get back to the bus stop in 20 minutes or I would have to wait an hour and 20 minutes for the next bus home. I'm not the type of person who can get just one thing at the store, especially if I'm going through the hassle of taking the bus there.
They honestly don't smell bad. We've used disposables. I think disposables smell worse than cloth. If the cloth smells especially bad, either it's been on baby too long, or it needs to be washed better (didn't get clean enough or detergent remained in the diaper).
They're cute. I love the little bubble butt that cloth gives Wiggle Worm. They also come in pretty colors and prints.
They allow me to be crafty. If I were so inclined, I could sew some diapers or covers for him. We use cloth wipes, which I made myself. I plan on making some stay-dry liners. I have an idea for a diaper that I want to try on him. If I'm feeling brave, I may even try to make a cover or two.
From cloth diapering, I've learned that sun will get rid of baby poop stains from fabric. That's awesome in itself. I got tomato sauce on some clothes yesterday and found out today that sun removes that, too! I've never been able to get tomato sauce stains out before, I've had to throw out clothes in the past from it.
