You have got to be kidding me
So I thought the vomiting was done. It had been about a month since I threw up because of the pregnancy. Last week I threw up once or twice. But it was at work, and they were painting the building, so I blamed it on the paint fumes. But they finished painting last week, and I threw up today right before lunch. So I guess it's come back just when I was counting myself as done.
And then I get a phone call from a nurse at my clinic. I failed the 1-hour glucose test last week. So now I have to take the 3-hour this week. That would just be great. The first half of the pregnancy is hyperemesis gravidum, the last third might be gestational diabetes. If I wind up having that, I'm going to adopt any future kids.
I hate being pregnant.

As long as you watch what you eat, and do the finger sticks at the same times every day, you'll be perfectly fine.
Simple things keep your sugar score on the low side, not eating starchy vegetables with more traditional carbs, eat fruit in moderation instead of drinking lots of juice, if you have to drink juice, water it down a tiny bit.
I had to do the finger sticks before they came out with the "soft" stick things, and it still did not hurt that bad.
The worst bit, is knowing that it makes you more likely to develop actual diabetes later. Certainly don't do what I did and go 180 back in the other direction diet wise after you are given the all clear. I dread having to fix my eating habbits again this go around.
The increased risk for diabetes later in life for both me and the kid also concerns me. That and the increased chance of c-section because of a giant baby.
Thanks for the assurance that it isn't too hard to manage. It frustrates me that I may only get a month and a half of "normal" this pregnancy. But it's good to know that it doesn't have to change things drastically.
After my one hour test this time, I did not want anything other than water for several hours. The drink itself, while definitely too sweet, did not make me throw up thank goodness.
The actual blood drawing has never bothered me, but waiting on these poor people to find my veins and hope they don't move on them... that is another story entirely.
The thing to remember is that as long as they catch it in time for you to watch your sugar in take then the chances of the baby being too big are small. Its cautionary. They have to tell you its a possibility.
As long as you view your "diet" as a series of trade offs, instead of depriving yourself you will most probably be ok.
If you are craving chocolate for example, eat some fruit and then drink water. Chances are you'll feel full, plus craving sweets is a good sign that you could be dehydrated. (I used to be in the Army, I know all about being dehydrated LOL)
